Pledge FAQ

Why am I signing a pledge and not the petition? There has been a challenge to our ballot title from an individual, which requires the Supreme Court to review the title. This is nothing more than a political tactic to delay our start date for collecting signatures on the petition. The OCTA campaign is collecting emails of registered voters in order to email a petition to anyone who wishes to sign. When the petition sheets are ready, we will be able to email a single signature sheet to each individual; which they will then print out, sign and mail to campaign headquarters at 5220 NE Sandy Blvd., Portland, OR 97213. By having thousands of people ready to sign on the first day petitions are live, OCTA expects to turn in an unprecedented number of signatures in the first week of the signature drive.

Why am I mailing my petition to campaign headquarters? State law requires that signatures be turned in by the Chief Petitioners. After mailing your signed petition to headquarters it will be bundled with other signed petitions and driven to Salem by the Chief Petitioners to turn in.

How do I circulate a pledge sheet? In the same manner you would circulate a petition sheet, by asking friends, co-workers and strangers if they are willing to sign the pledge. The only thing we need is their email address. They will be able to print off, sign and mail in their petition from the privacy of their home once we receive our official title. This is direct democracy at its finest. There will be no need to find a circulator or business that is carrying the petition, it will come to them.

How do I keep track of the emails I collect? The OCTA campaign will supply you with a pledge sheet, talking points and the FAQs you are reading now to support your efforts. If you plan on collecting more than 100 emails, Kyndall (kyndall at democracyresources.com) will streamline a method that works for you and is efficient for the campaign.
